TL;DR
  • The Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra are rumored to come with an upgraded front-facing camera.
  • A new rumor says that the S27 and S27 Plus won’t receive the same upgrade.
  • That would make the S27 the fourth consecutive Galaxy S generation to leverage the same 12-megapixel sensor.

Galaxy S27 season is creeping up: Samsung’s next non-folding flagships should be here in just a few months. We’ve already seen leaks about the phones’ hardware design, cameras, and other specs. Today, a new camera rumor has popped up, and it’s not great news.

Galaxy Club reports that, in contrast with the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra, the two lesser models will stick with the same front-facing camera as this year’s Galaxy S26 series. That’s a 12-megapixel shooter that’s been unchanged for several generations.

The publication previously reported that the higher-end Galaxy S27 phones will come with a new 16-megapixel selfie camera sensor, potentially a square model that could make for more flexible framing options. At the time, it said that it wasn’t clear whether the S27 and S27 Plus would see the same upgrade.

Galaxy Club doesn’t cite a source for this new information, but the report makes it clear that the publication now expects the lower-end Galaxy S27 phones will retain the same 12-megapixel sensor Samsung has employed in its Galaxy S phones since 2023’s Galaxy S23 series.

Samsung typically reveals its new S-series phones early in the year, so we could have confirmation about the phones’ selfie cams and more as soon as January.
