Rumors: limited edition dual-edged Galaxy S6 and "confirmed" GS6 accessories
To say that the Galaxy Note Edge was a bit polarizing might be putting things mildly, with some having less than loving feelings towards its concept. Putting aside one’s personal preference however, Samsung did manage to make another flexible device to follow up its Galaxy Round. Lately there has been quite a bit of chatter about a supposed Galaxy S6 Edge variant, and now the rabbit hole’s mystery is about to deepen.
Korean website Asian Economies has reported upon a new rumor that is double-fine, literally: apparently the Galaxy S6 Edge will have two curved sides. This would not only make it the first device of its kind, but also serve as a clear indication that Samsung itself has moved past the original Youm concept model it showed off two years ago. The report makes mention of the much-rumored S6 specs: Snapdragon 810 64-Bit / Exynos 7420 SoC combo, and a QHD display, and goes so far as to suggest the S6 Edge would have “roughly the same” specs.
Said report throws in the phrase “limited edition”, however given that it cites a production target of “10 million units shipped in 2015″, it might be safe to assume the scale is a bit larger than the Note Edge, of which Samsung reportedly only produced 1 million in 2014. This would put a new spin on the rumors of a 45 million Galaxy S6 shipment target in 2015, as 10 (million) of those would be the Edge variant.
While we’re on the topic of Galaxy S6 talk, SamMobile has what is claims is a “confirmed” list of accessories for the S6, which includes:
- EF-CG920B — Zero-F S View Cover Case
- EP-PG920I — Zero-Flat S Charger Pad Power
- EF-WG920B — Zero-F Flip Wallet Case
- ET-FG920C — Zero-F Screen protector ETC
- EF-YG920B — Zero-F Protective Cover [PULeather] Case
- EF-QG920B — Zero-F Protective Cover [Clear] Case
- EF-YG925BMEBUS — Zero Protective Cover [PULeather] Case
- EF-WG925BSEBUS — Zero Flip Wallet Case PVR
- EF-QG925BGEGWW — Zero Protective Cover [Clear]Case
Assuming these product details are accurate, the S6 would look to have similar accessories as the S5, however the inclusion of official screen protectors is something interesting. Additionally the use of the “Zero” moniker would suggest the rumors of an internal code name, “Project Zero” might be true.
With CES now underway, there is a chance some official news regarding Samsung’s smartphones will be unveiled, but with the company supposedly displaying its S6 (and perhaps S6 Edge?) to select partners only (read: not the press) it may be some time before anything slides down the pipes.
