Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge given 24K gold treatment
Gold plated smartphones used to be a luxury but over the past few years, we’ve seen more companies open up the treatment to anyone with a smartphone and lots of cash to burn. Samsung already offers a champagne gold version of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge but if you’re after something a little more bling, you can now give your new smartphone the 24 karat gold treatment.
Karalux, a Vietnamese gold-plating shop, has begun offering 24K gold plated versions of Samsung’s new flagship devices and unlike other services, the service is actually very affordable. For just $400 (VND 8 million), you can treat your smartphone to gold-plating which takes 3 hours to complete or if you haven’t already bought the handset, the Gold plated Galaxy S6 will cost you $1300 while the S6 Edge will cost you $1500.
Both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge feature Corning Gorilla Glass 4 glass panels on the front and the rear so the treatment only applies to the metal bezel frame along with the metal rim around the camera on the rear. To apply the new finish, Karalux claims that engineers spend three hours passing the handset through ten different processes to finally have it 24K gold plated, and the process includes an additional nano coating to prevent the gold paint from corroding.
