Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 reaches over 418,000 folds in marathon test
- A YouTuber has put the Galaxy Z Flip 3 through a marathon folding test.
- The foldable was also subjected to dirt, sand, and water.
- The Flip 3 reached over 418,500 folds before giving up.
Samsung says the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is rated for up to 200,000 folds, which is equivalent to five years of use if you fold and unfold the device 100 times a day.
However, Polish YouTuber Mrkeybrd live-streamed a folding test from June 8-13 (h/t: Maeil Business News), putting the Galaxy Z Flip 3 through its paces. The test also saw the YouTuber cover the foldable in dirt and sand and dip it in water. So what was the result?
It turns out that the Samsung device reached just over 418,500 folds and unfolds before refusing to stay closed or fully open. The YouTuber also dropped the phone over a dozen times at the end of the folding test. You can check out the ending below.
It’s a pretty remarkable achievement and suggests that Samsung may have been underplaying the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s durability. However, it’s also worth noting that the hinge started to become unreliable at around 352,000 folds, as it didn’t always close properly. Nevertheless, this point still comes way beyond Samsung’s rated number of folds and came after the introduction of sand and other debris.
This isn’t exactly a scientific folding test given the aforementioned dirt and sand, for one. But it should still give Galaxy Z Flip 3 owners some sort of reassurance that their foldable is a durable device. If you’re having folding issues you can check out our guide on solving Z Flip 3 problems.
