Garmin's new vívomove watch blurs the line between classic timepiece and activity tracker
Analog watches that double as activity trackers are nothing we haven’t seen in the past. Withings, the tech company that’s getting scooped up by Nokia, has made a name for itself over the years with its Activité line of fitness-tracking watches. Now it looks like Garmin is trying to give Withings some healthy competition with the addition of its new activity tracker, the vívomove.
You probably wouldn’t notice it unless someone told you, but the vívomove actually has some fitness tracking capabilities underneath that analog face. Through the Garmin Connect app for Android and iOS, this new watch can track your workouts, sleep patterns and trends, and even allow you to join online challenges to compete with friends. Since this doesn’t have a digital display, you won’t be able to look down and see how many minutes you’ve been active or your distance traveled throughout the day. Instead, the vívomove sports two bars on the analog face. The left bar shows how close you are to achieving your daily step goal, and the bar on the right will remind you when you’ve been inactive for too long.
The vívomove has a few other things up its sleeve, too, like water rating of 5ATM (50 meters), a battery that will last up to a full year, and interchangeable bands.
The watch will be available in Sport, Classic and Premium models. The vívomove Sport will come in either black or white casings with a black sport band, and the Classic watch will come in black or rose gold casings with either black or white leather bands. The vívomove Premium watch sports either a stainless steel or gold casing and comes with a brown leather band.
Want to get your hands on one for yourself? Unfortunately they aren’t available for purchase quite yet, but you can check them out at Garmin’s website. The Sport model will be available for $149.99, the Classic for $199.99, and the Premium model will set you back $299.99. It’s looking like all three models come with the same feature set, so you’re just paying for looks if you want to go with a pricier model. Additional sport bands will be available for $29.99, and leather bands can be purchased for $59.99.
