Gemini Daily Brief could soon be actually useful all day long

Google appears to be gearing up to fix one of the biggest annoyances with the Gemini Daily Brief. Google has been actively expanding access to the feature, including making the Gemini Daily Brief available to free users and experimenting with quick audio briefing shortcuts. However, Daily Brief remains curiously rigid once it compiles your morning summary. That could soon change, as Google appears to be testing a dedicated manual refresh trigger to regenerate your briefing on demand.

Currently, Gemini Daily Brief operates largely on a “set it and forget it” model. Once Gemini generates your brief for the morning, there is no built-in way to force an update. If your calendar shifts in the afternoon or your priorities change as the day goes on, you’re still stuck with an old recap that has lost its utility for the rest of your day.

In Google app v17.58.13, we’ve spotted references to a new “Refresh daily brief” option, described as a way to “regenerate today’s briefing content,” presumably with fresh, updated context.

While we managed to surface the early look option above, we couldn’t get the refreshed update to show up just yet. Presumably, when the feature goes live, selecting the manual refresh option will likely wipe the cached summary and send a fresh query to the Gemini backend. This would likely allow the AI to parse your updated calendar, emails, and tasks to generate an updated, real-time snapshot that reflects where your day actually stands.

Given how practical on-demand updates are for an AI assistant, we hope Google rolls this out sooner rather than later.
