It's also working on a redesigned UI for Gemini's "Images" and "Videos" sections.

Add Android Authority on Google:
TL;DR
  • Google is working on a new ‘Publish’ feature for media created with Gemini.
  • It could use published image and video styles to create a public gallery of reusable styles for users.
  • It’s also working on redesigned “Images” and “Videos” sections in Gemini.

Gemini may not be everyone’s favorite way to replace Google Assistant, but it is really good at doing regular AI tasks. Whether you’re imagining new worlds or editing photos with prompts, Gemini with Nano Banana does it really well. Now, we’re seeing evidence that Google might be working on some changes to Gemini’s “Images” section and capabilities.

You’re reading an Authority Insights story. Authority Insights brings you all the latest exclusive reports, app teardowns, leaks, and in-depth tech coverage from the Android Authority team that you won’t find anywhere else.

Gemini already offers dedicated sections for images and videos within the app, including several prebuilt templates in each. However, while digging through the latest version of the Google app (v17.66.11), we found evidence that Google is working on redesigning both the “Images” and “Videos” sections.

Right now, the Images section in Gemini displays several templates in a horizontally scrollable list of cards. However, we managed to enable a new UI that may roll out in a future update. With the new layout, Google will display large cards for each style and could also add categories at the top.

Check out the new images section in action via our video below:

We also managed to enable a similar UI for the videos section, complete with large cards for users to swipe through.

Alongside these UI changes, we spotted several strings suggesting that Google might soon let users create and share their own image styles. According to the code, the feature will let users publish a generated image as a “style.” This could appear directly inside the details section of generated images, allowing users to publicly share their image styles for anyone to use. We also spotted strings indicating that Google will let users unpublish styles they previously shared.

Here are all the strings we found related to the upcoming feature:

Code
<string name="assistant_robin_collection_detail_menu_publish">Publish style</string>
<string name="assistant_robin_collection_detail_publish_dialog_body">Publishing your style lets anyone discover and use it for their creations.</string>
<string name="assistant_robin_collection_detail_publish_dialog_body_with_handle">Publishing your style lets anyone discover and use @%1$s for their creations.</string>
<string name="assistant_robin_collection_detail_publish_dialog_title">Publish style?</string>
<string name="assistant_robin_collection_detail_publish_dialog_title_with_name">Publish %1$s?</string>
<string name="assistant_robin_collection_detail_unpublish_confirm_button">Unpublish</string>
<string name="assistant_robin_collection_detail_unpublish_dialog_body">Your style won't be visible on Gemini anymore, but you can still access and republish it any time.</string>
<string name="assistant_robin_collection_detail_unpublish_dialog_title">Unpublish style?</string>
<string name="assistant_robin_collection_detail_unpublish_dialog_title_with_name">Unpublish %1$s?</string>

It’s also worth noting that the upcoming “publish” feature could extend to videos as well. Google may be hoping to build a public repository of user-created styles for anyone to browse and apply to their own creations.

Neither the publish feature nor the UI redesign is live for users right now. Judging by the complete lack of UI elements related to the publishing feature, Google still has plenty of work to do before rolling it out. The redesigned images and videos sections, on the other hand, appear to be working as expected and could roll out sooner rather than later.

⚠️ An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release.
