Report: Google, vivo, Xiaomi foldable phones to launch in Q4 2021
- Samsung will apparently start producing foldable screens for Google, vivo, and Xiaomi in October.
- It’s believed that the devices are set to launch in Q4 2021.
- Oppo’s foldable has purportedly been delayed to 2022.
We’ve heard reports for months now that Samsung is making foldable phone displays for a variety of OEMs, with these devices expected in late 2021. Now, it looks like more details have dropped via a Korea-based news outlet.
The Elec reports that Samsung will start production of foldable OLED panels for Google, vivo, and Xiaomi in October. It adds that the three companies are planning to launch their foldable phones in Q4 2021.
It reiterated previous reports that the Google foldable will have a 7.6-inch in-folding display, although there’s no word on an external display just yet. Meanwhile, the vivo foldable is tipped to arrive with an 8-inch “3.4:3” main screen and a 6.5-inch outer panel.
Which brand's upcoming foldable are you more excited to see?
There doesn’t seem to be much in the way of details regarding Xiaomi’s next foldable, beyond The Elec saying Samsung is making the main screen and CSOT is making the “accessory” screen. The so-called accessory display points to a clamshell foldable rather than a tablet-sized foldable with a smartphone-sized external screen. This makes sense too as Xiaomi already offers a tablet-style device in the recently released Mi Mix Fold.
The outlet previously reported that OPPO had a clamshell-style foldable in the works, complete with a 7.7-inch main screen and a 1.5-inch to 2-inch external display. But it now reports that the device has been delayed to 2022.
Nevertheless, it looks like those on the hunt for a new foldable phone might be spoiled for choice come Q4 2021. Are there any non-Samsung foldable phones you’re looking forward to checking out? Let us know via the poll further up this page.
