  • Google is adding more inline links in both AI Overviews and AI Mode.
  • The company is expanding carousels for developing topics to more regions and languages.
  • Google’s also testing clickable creator and publisher names in video results.

Lately, Google has been trying some new things for the AI experiences in Search. It recently updated AI Mode and AI Overviews to provide more context in search results and gave AI Mode the ability to keep track of information. Now, it’s making even more changes to AI Search features to make it easier for users to find what they’re looking for.

Google today announced several updates to its AI-powered Search experience. The company is updating both AI Overviews and AI Mode to make it easier for users to find the information they need.

Search will now show more inline links in both AI Overviews and AI Mode, and will aim to place them higher up in the results. Google hopes this will help users find key sources more easily and navigate to them for added context or a deep dive. Google is also testing a new display in Search AI experiences that surfaces links to official websites in a dedicated section at the top of an AI Mode response. Features such as AI Mode and AI Overviews will also include context explaining the importance of these links.

Back in May, Google started showing prominent carousels in AI Mode and AI Overviews, aiming to highlight timely coverage of a “developing topic.” Today, the company is expanding these carousels to more regions and languages. Carousels in Search AI experiences will also prioritize coverage from a user’s preferred sources.

The links that appear at the end of AI responses to search queries are getting a makeover. To make these links more engaging and visible, Google is adding thumbnails and a more clickable design.

Google is also testing clickable names for creators and publishers in video results. When users click on these results, they can be redirected to the creator’s or publisher’s Search profile. Search profiles are currently available in the US for creators with a sizable following.

These new Search features could make Google’s AI Mode and AI Overviews more useful for users and creators alike. It remains to be seen whether the increased number of inline links and carousels in AI experiences can offset the substantial loss of traffic that many publishers have experienced since AI Overviews first launched in Search results.
