Meet Blog Compass: Google's new app for bloggers
- Google has rolled out Blog Compass, a new blogging app for the Indian market.
- The app provides content recommendations, tips, and metrics for new bloggers.
- Blog Compass is currently in open beta.
Google has launched a new blogging app in India, designed to help bloggers “manage their site and find topics to write about.” Blog Compass, which is currently in beta, appeared free in the Google Play Store earlier this week (via TechCrunch).
The new app is designed to streamline the blogging process, as well as inspire bloggers with recommended content based on their interests and previously published posts. “You can track site stats, approve comments, and read tips for how to make your blog more successful all in one place,” says the app’s Google Play description.
The app also includes a “learning center” where users can get tips about how to get started with SEO and Google Analytics. It’s compatible with WordPress and Blogger.
Why now?
It may seem like an odd time for this kind of “introduction to blogging” app, given how long Blogger and WordPress have been around for. However, in emerging markets like India (and wherever else Blog Compass may eventually roll out), some folks are just getting to grips with mobile internet for the first time.
I know when I first started blogging I could have used a bit of guidance on how it all worked and what I was filling out those meta tags for (hell, I could still use some tips on that). For people who are keen to begin their journey into online writing, getting some tips and clearly laid out blog metrics could be a great help.
What Google has planned for the app in the future, and when it will leave beta, we don’t yet know. If you like the idea and you’re in India, though, you can check it out now via the button below.
