You can now talk your way through Gmail, Docs, and Keep

Back at Google I/O, the company showed how Gemini could make Gmail, Docs, and Keep feel less like apps you operate and more like assistants you talk to. The company promised that these new voice-powered experiences would be available this summer, and after a few early glimpses, the wait is finally over. Gmail Live, Docs Live, and Keep Live are rolling out now, giving users new ways to get things done without reaching for the keyboard.

Gmail Live is perhaps the most immediately useful of the three. Instead of digging through your inbox or remembering the right keywords, you can ask a question out loud. Gmail can connect information across emails to synthesize an answer. That could mean asking when your kid’s next school event is, checking an order update, or finding information buried across multiple messages.

The experience is also conversational. You can ask follow-up questions or change direction without starting over, or even interrupt Gmail Live while it’s talking and switch to something else. A transcript stays visible on screen, with links to the relevant emails so you can quickly verify where an answer came from. That makes the feature handy when you’re busy, commuting, or don’t want to wrestle with your inbox on a small phone screen.

Docs Live is Google’s take on the same idea for writing. Rather than dictate text, you can talk through what you want to create and have Gemini help shape it into a structured, context-aware document. You can also be specific about the end goal, such as whether you’re creating a summary, proposal, or another type of document. Gemini will then organize your thoughts around that request.

The real advantage comes from its connections to other Google services. Docs Live can pull relevant information from Gmail, Drive, Chat, and the web while working on your document. That means you could ask it to draft something using details from an email and information stored in a Drive file, without constantly jumping between apps to find and copy that information.

Keep Live may feel especially familiar to anyone who has encountered Google’s Rambler voice input. Both let you speak naturally and leave Gemini to make sense of your thoughts. The difference is what happens next: Rambler turns spoken input into polished text, while Keep Live can take a free-flowing brain dump and organize it into useful notes and lists.

You don’t even have to spell out exactly what you mean. Tell it you need the ingredients for pesto pasta, for example, and Gemini can understand the intent and organize the note accordingly.

The rollout is happening this week. Gmail Live and Keep Live are available to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers, while Docs Live is limited to Pro and Ultra plans. The features are available on mobile in English globally, with Gmail and Docs supported on Android and iOS. Keep Live is currently Android-only. Google says Workspace business customers are next.
