Google's latest experiment is now available to everyone, and it's all about you

Google has been experimenting with a rather unusual way to make your personal data feel a little more useful. A couple of months ago, it introduced Dreambeans, an experiment that turns information scattered across your Google apps into personalized stories and recommendations. Now, it’s opening the feature up much more widely. Dreambeans is now available to Google users aged 18 and older in the US on both Android and iOS.

The interesting part is just how personal these stories can get. Instead of giving everyone the same generic suggestions, Dreambeans can pull context from the Google apps you choose to connect, including Gmail, Calendar, Photos, Search, YouTube, and now Gemini. It then combines that information with topics you might care about, such as places worth visiting, something new to watch, or an upcoming event.

That could make its recommendations surprisingly specific. Say you have a trip sitting on your Calendar, you’ve recently been watching travel videos on YouTube, and your Photos library is full of pictures from your last vacation. Dreambeans could use that context to create something that feels much more relevant than another generic “10 places you should visit” recommendation.

Google Photos integration is probably where things get especially interesting. Dreambeans can use photos of you, your friends, or family within its generated stories and even suggest ways to spend time with the people who matter to you. The result sounds a little like having Google turn bits and pieces of your digital life into a personalized inspiration feed. You aren’t stuck scrolling through these stories, either. If something catches your attention, you can explore it further, save it for later, or share it with someone else.

Of course, getting the most personalized experience means giving Dreambeans access to more of your Google apps, which won’t appeal to everyone. But if you’re already comfortable connecting your Google services, this could be a fun way to actually use the information they’ve accumulated.
