Google Earth gets a new logo with Google’s gradient makeover
Nov 6, 2026 — 5:47 AM ET

- Google has quietly updated the Google Earth app icon in the Play Store.
- The new icon uses more gradients, similar to icons for other Google apps.
- The new icon is currently only visible in the Play Store listing and the Google Earth Engine website.
Google may have killed off Google Earth Pro, but it hasn’t forgotten about the vanilla Google Earth app. It recently introduced new AI-powered data layers and rolled out Google Earth’s built-in flight simulator globally. Now, the company seems to be redesigning the Google Earth logo to bring it in line with its new gradient design language for app icons.

Google has quietly updated the Google Earth icon in its Play Store listing, and it’s now more colorful and gradient-heavy than ever before. The old Google Earth icon was a circle with five wavy lines in different shades of blue. The new icon follows the same design idea with a circular logo and wavy lines, but adds a touch of color and a more gradient look. There are fewer waves now, and the color smoothly blends lavender-blue with bright blue.
For now, the new icon is live on the Play Store and the Google Earth Engine website. However, the Google Earth website is still using the old icon, as is the Google Earth app once it’s installed. Clearly, the redesigned icon hasn’t fully rolled out yet.
A new Google Earth icon that leans heavily on gradients isn’t entirely surprising. Google has been moving towards a gradient design for its app icons for a while. Last year, the company redesigned the Google app icon with a gradient. It also rolled out gradient icons for Workspace apps earlier this year, as well as for apps like Google Contacts, Phone by Google, and Google Messages.
With the Play Store listing updated with the new design, it’s likely only a matter of time before the icon shows up on the web interface and in the app itself.
