You can now buy Google Fi SIM cards at a Best Buy near you
Google took the somewhat unconventional step of using Reddit to announce that Google Fi SIM cards are now available at Best Buy. Previously, the only way to get Google Fi SIM cards was to go to the website.
The main caveat is with the price. Whereas the website offers Fi SIM cards for free, you’ll have to fork over $9.99 if you want to pick one up from Best Buy. Luckily, Google offers a $10 service credit on the first bill to new and existing Fi subscribers if they activate their devices on Fi.
Keep in mind that Best Buy employees will not be able to help with Fi SIM card activations, though the steps seem simple enough. Also, not every Best Buy store has SIM cards in stock — some stores around me have them, while others have me waiting until later this week to pick them up. Make sure to check the Best Buy website first before you drive over to a location.
Finally, the free Fi SIM card will not go away — this is an option if you want to pick one up as soon as possible.
Google Fi works with just about every smartphone out there, including iPhones. However, phones that aren’t built for Fi have some limitations. For example, those phones can only rely on T-Mobile’s network instead of being able to automatically switch between T-Mobile, Sprint, U.S. Cellular, and free Wi-Fi hotspots.
If you’re okay with those limitations and have a compatible phone, you can grab the Fi SIM card from Best Buy at the link below.
