Google Home can once again change smart light colors for you
Oct 7, 2026 — 1:05 AM ET

- Several users were unable to change smart light colors using Google Home and Nest devices.
- Google Home routines were also failing to change smart light colors.
- Google has now rolled out a fix which should have fixed the glitch.
Yesterday, we saw reports that Google Home was facing a weirdly specific issue preventing users from changing the colors of their smart lights via the Google Home app or connected Nest smart speakers and displays. Well, there’s finally some good news for all affected users.
The issue was first reported in a Reddit post by user baddebate. According to their report, they couldn’t change the colors of smart lights from multiple manufacturers using Google Home or Google Nest. The color selector in the Home app also failed, as did their routines.
The official Google Nest Community account has now confirmed that Google has rolled out a fix for the issue. The confirmation comes as a comment on the original Reddit post detailing the bug. While baddebate hasn’t confirmed whether the fix worked for them, another user, “sunnyone123,” said it resolved the issue for them.
Google hasn’t confirmed what caused the glitch or how it was fixed. However, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen weird bugs pop up across Google Home and Gemini. Yesterday’s Google Home bug certainly left many users scratching their heads, but hopefully Google’s fix has now reached all devices.
Were you also having trouble changing your smart lights’ colors with Google Home? Can you change them now that the fix has rolled out? Let us know in the comments.
