Google Home with display confirmed by a job listing
We’ve seen devices like the Amazon Echo Show that combine the usability of a smart assistant with the at-a-glance usefulness of a display. Thanks to a Google job listing, we’re now a little more confident that a Google Home device with a display is likely on the way.
The job listing is for a Touch Sensor Hardware Engineer. In the listing, Google says:
In this role, you’ll work on the next generation of Google Hardware to enable the best multi-touch user experience. You will lead the touch module development and integration for Google Hardware from concept to mass production.
The key here is the mention of a concept product, not yet announced or released. This move isn’t exactly surprising given Google’s direct rivalry to the Echo line, with the release of the Home Mini and Home Max.
Especially given Google and Amazon’s fraught relationship, a Home device with a screen would be useful for YouTube viewing and accessing other Google services that are unavailable on the Echo, and perhaps not as easy to use on the voice-only Echo lineup.
Unfortunately, we don’t know much other than the fact that Google is indeed working on a Home device with a display. This was also previously rumored based on Google app code. Nonetheless, the prospect of a Google Home with a display is pretty exciting, and we’ll update you as more information becomes available.
