Rumor: Google Home Hub may be renamed to Google Nest Hub
The Google Home Hub, the first smart display from Google, only launched a few months ago. However, a new rumor claims that the device may be renamed very soon and will be called the Google Nest Hub.
The report comes from 9to5Google, citing unnamed sources. It says the rebranding of the Google Home Hub to the Google Nest Hub is due in part to the company’s plans to launch a larger smart display soon, which will reportedly be called the Nest Hub Max. While the Google Home/Nest Hub has a 7-inch display, the Nest Home Max will reportedly have a 10-inch screen, along with an embedded Nest camera.
You may remember that in July 2018, Google’s parent company Alphabet announced that its Nest division would no longer be a stand-alone business. The Nest products and team members were integrated into Google’s home and living room division. It’s possible that Google wants to keep the Nest name alive by using it for its smart displays from now on, instead of using the Google Home brand, which is used mostly for its smart speakers.
It’s possible Google will announce the Nest Hub Max, and the Google Nest Hub rebranding, on May 7. That’s not only the first day of Google I/O 2019, but the company is also teasing some major Pixel-related announcements to be made on that day as well, which could include the official reveal of the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL.
