Google Maps finally gets customized location icons
This is one of those why-haven’t-we-had-this-all-along kind of updates, but Google Maps has just launched the ability to tag your favorite locations with themed icons. Previously, everything was stars. Stars for work, stars for home, stars for your favorite bowling alley, etc. Now you can make your Maps really feel like your own, and isn’t that really what the Android experience is all about?
Google has your back with an array of colorful icons that you can choose from. Feel like your home is your kingdom? Mark that baby with a palisaded castle. More of a outdoorsman? Log cabin is right up your alley. There’s even dragons and pirate ships. Not really sure how practical those are, but hey, it’s your map not mine.
One of the goals of this update is to make locations more visually distinct at a glance, which makes selecting location to navigate to much safer when you’re on the go. Whether or not you use it for that purpose is up to you, but either way you’re sure to have a more colorful and personalized experience with Google Maps going forward.
