Radio silence: Google Nest Hub glitch cuts off radio playback
Sep 11, 2026 — 12:58 PM ET

- Users are reporting that their Google Nest Hub smart displays are having trouble playing the radio.
- Some users claim the radio just isn’t working, while others say they’re having problems with buffering and repeats.
- One report claims that the radio will stop playing after 15-20 minutes.
It’s nothing new that Google’s smart home ecosystem can be buggy at times. However, everything has been fairly quiet as of late, as the tech giant rolled out several fixes last month for alarms, playlists, and Keep lists. But nothing lasts forever, as a new problem has reared its ugly head.
If you’re having problems listening to the radio on your Nest Hub, you’re not alone. Several owners of Google’s smart display report having trouble playing the radio on their devices.
According to the reports, the radio is constantly buffering and repeating. For example, one commenter mentions that they’ll hear a news reporter say a sentence, only to hear that sentence repeated immediately after. Others claim that the radio isn’t working at all.
Interestingly, one report from a user in Bucharest claims that it can take 20-30 seconds before any radio station on TuneIn kicks in. They add that the radio will play, but it stops after 15-20 minutes. This forces them to say “Play radio” again, which only restarts this cycle.
This isn’t the first time Nest Hub owners have had trouble listening to the radio. A similar situation played out about a year ago, with enough reports to get Google to acknowledge the issue.
Android Authority has reached out to Google regarding the radio bug. This article will be updated when more information becomes available. Are you experiencing similar issues with your Nest Hub? Tell us in the comments section below.
