The new Google News app is now widely available

At Google I/O 2018 last week, Google announced a completely new app called Google News. It isn’t a minor refresh of the previous Google Play Newsstand app, but a wholly different, AI-powered experience.

The only problem was that not everyone had access to the app at launch. However, now the app is widely available to pretty much everyone. You can click here to download it now or click the button at the bottom of this article.

Google News is finally the news app Google fans have been waiting for. Whereas Google Play Newsstand was clunky and pretty much useless, Google News brings you the information you want to read (and the information Google’s AI thinks you want to read) in a clean and easy-to-read format.

You can read our comprehensive coverage of the app at our Google News app review, but the highlights are that the app is simple to use, gives you access to news sources from around the globe, and, best of all, gives you vital context for that news.

Google gives you the option to view a story from different news sources in an aggregated format, which lets you read about a piece of news from different perspectives. This gives you the ability to wade through the so-called “fake news” that permeates within our media.
