The Google One VPN for Android just got a little safer
- Google’s VPN service has gained three new features on Android.
- The Safe Disconnect feature is probably the best addition for privacy-focused users.
The Google One VPN service launched in late 2020, coming as a value-added addition to the 2TB+ plans on Google One. The service has just expanded to iOS, but Google hasn’t forgotten about the Android app just yet.
Google One’s VPN for Android gained three useful features, according to an official blog post. These features are Safe Disconnect, App Bypass, and Snooze.
Safe Disconnect will only allow the internet to be used when the Google One VPN is active, App Bypass allows specific apps to bypass the VPN in favor of a standard internet connection, while Snooze lets you simply disable the VPN for a set period of time.
Safe Disconnect, in particular, is a welcome feature for the privacy-conscious, effectively acting as a killswitch to ensure that you aren’t needlessly exposed. But the other two features are neat quality-of-life additions too.
