Google's VPN service is now available outside the US

VPN by Google One was only available in the US since the service’s launch last year. Google has now rolled out the service to a handful of new locations, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and the UK. However, some restrictions remain in place, including the fact that you will no longer be able to use the VPN if you travel outside these countries.

Secondly, this benefit is only open for Google One subscribers at the 2TB (or higher) tier plan. If you haven’t already and are looking to sign up, the Google One plan with 2TB of storage data will set you back $9.99 each month or a discounted annual rate of $100. Something else to keep in mind is that the VPN is only available on Android devices. Google mentioned that it would eventually roll out Windows, Mac, and iOS support during the launch but didn’t offer an exact timeline.

The Google One VPN was deemed to offer “robust” security by an independent, but commissioned, audit earlier this year, with Google addressing most of the issues that were brought up right away. That said, the high-tier Google One subscription requirement and the lack of device support keep the VPN at the same level as before. It’s a useful benefit for subscribers but not a mainstream VPN contender, even if it is available in a few more locations.
