Google Photos finally has search filters
- Google Photos is adding search filter buttons that help you quickly find pictures and video.
- You can filter your library by image type and even the presence of other people.
- It appears to be rolling out as a server-side update.
Google Photos has powerful search features built-in, but discovering them hasn’t been easy when you’ve frequently had to type in the right phrases to find the snapshots you’re looking for. It should be easier from here on out, though, as Android Police has learned that Google is rolling out search filters to its cloud photo app.
Search for a particular person and you can tap filters that narrow the photo results to a given media type or even those images that include other people. If you want to find pictures of you and a close set of friends, you don’t have to write a lengthy search query to track them down.
The search feature is taking advantage of Google’s existing technology — it’s just not so dependent on text queries.
Google’s new feature appears to be a server-side addition rather than an update to the Photos app. You may have to wait a while before the enhanced photo search appears on your phone. When it does, though, you should have an easier time wading through a large library to track down a favorite memory.
