Google Photos' Wardrobe could soon get a key feature it previously forgot to pack

Google has long pitched virtual try-on as a viable way to get non-savvy users to use AI. More recently, it added the functionality to Google Photos via the “Wardrobe” feature, letting users blend their actual photos with a virtual copy of outfits they collect on their phone. Earlier in September, Google also included the option to import your own outfits from existing photos and try them virtually against a neutral background, with a more stoic pose. The feature has its quirks, but Google is testing new options to expand it and address some of the limitations.

So far, Google Photos’ Wardrobe lets you import your outfits once. If you wish to add new ones, you must reset the virtual Wardrobe instead of just refreshing it with newer additions.

However, Google appears to be building an option just for that. In a recent Google Photos build, we spotted under-development features related to Wardrobe, including a + button that could let users add new clothing without being forced to reset it entirely.

Tapping the button currently crashes the app, so we can’t show you the flow for adding new wardrobe items. In addition, we’ve also spotted evidence suggesting the Wardrobe feature could soon also get the options to try out eyewear and regenerate outfits that don’t render well.
