Is your Pixel 9 Pro Fold acting up? Google support may offer a big upgrade to replace it
Oct 29, 2026 — 11:49 AM ET

- A couple of Pixel 9 Pro Fold owners have received a Pixel 11 Pro Fold as a replacement after hardware issues.
- This appears to be part of a wider Pixel 9 Pro Fold bug, with issues ranging from a non-functional display to dead front cameras.
- It’s hard to gauge how severe this problem is right now, but it may be wise to contact Google support if your Pixel 9 Pro Fold is facing similar trouble.
Regardless of which Android smartphone you get, it can run into problems over its lifetime. In some cases, the severity of the issue can prompt manufacturers to offer a full replacement. But what happens when there’s no replacement device available? Well, a Pixel 9 Pro Fold user has just found out.
According to a user on Reddit, their 256GB Pixel 9 Pro Fold “suddenly developed an issue with the front cameras.” After reaching out to Google support for a solution, the company appears to have approved a 512GB Pixel 11 Pro Fold as the replacement.
One might expect Google to still have some Pixel 10 Pro Fold units in its warehouses to use as replacements, but evidently it doesn’t. Receiving a 512GB version may indicate the company was running low on the 256GB model.
Additionally, the user claims Google is offering a three-year extended warranty on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, adding that their foldable was out of standard warranty and had no insurance either. We’re seeing a similar user report on Reddit from just over a week ago, though it doesn’t mention the front camera at all, suggesting this may be part of a broader replacement program.
Some digging online reveals multiple reports from Pixel 9 Pro Fold users last year about a problem with the front cameras where they simply won’t work. However, it’s unclear whether the person who got the Pixel 11 Pro Fold as a replacement faced the same front camera issues.
If your Pixel 9 Pro Fold shows similar symptoms, it may be worth contacting Google support about a possible replacement. We have written to Google about this incident and asked for clarification on the user’s claims about a three-year extended warranty for the hardware problems. We’ll update the article when we hear back.
In the past, Google has replaced a Pixel phone with a newer variant, as some Pixel 5a customers learned in 2023. We’ve also seen this with the HUAWEI-made Nexus 6P nearly a decade ago, when customers were briefly provided the newer Pixel XL as a replacement.
