Pixel 11 Pro phones get Pro Stable Video mode, but there's a huge limitation

Google has finally launched the Pixel 11 series of phones, and there’s no shortage of notable features. In fact, one of the new additions this year seems ideal if you want smoother, more stabilized video capture.

The Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel Pro XL both offer a Pro Stable Video mode. At first glance, this seems to be Google’s answer to Super Steady, Ultra Stable, and Action modes seen on rival phones. This mode offers improved stabilization and smoother video compared to the default and Active stabilization modes. Google adds that Pro Stable Video mode activates automatically in shaky, bright-lit scenes. That should take some of the legwork out of capturing smooth video clips.

Unfortunately, Google confirmed to Android Authority that Pro Stable Video is part of the Video Boost feature. For the uninitiated, Video Boost is a Pixel camera feature that offers higher-quality video clips by uploading your recorded video to Google’s servers for processing. In other words, this isn’t an on-device video capture mode as seen on phones from rival manufacturers. That means you can’t access Pro Stable Video if you have a tiny data cap or if you’re in an area with poor or no internet connectivity. It also means you’ll have to wait a while to get the processed video.

Furthermore, Google confirmed to us that there isn’t a way to manually activate Pro Stable Video recording. That’s a shame, as there might be occasions where the mode doesn’t automatically kick in, but you still want super-stable video.

On the upside, Google says Pro Stable Video can reach up to 8K resolution via Video Boost. There’s no word on the maximum resolution and frame rate without Video Boost, though. For what it’s worth, the Galaxy S26 line‘s Super Steady mode tops out at 1440p/60fps while the vivo X300 Pro‘s Ultra stable mode delivers 2.8K/60fps video.

The requirement for a brightly lit scene also suggests to me that Google, like other brands, is shooting Pro Stable Video via the ultrawide camera. This is understandable, as ultrawide cameras offer more stable video capture due to the inherently wider field of view. However, these cameras often lag behind the primary camera for low-light video quality. We’ll need to get our hands on a review unit to confirm this camera choice.

Pro Stable Video isn’t the only new camera feature on the Pixel 11 phones, though. Google’s new phones also offer Camera Looks (finally), a Creator Suite with a teleprompter mode, and a Magic Capture mode that’s effectively Samsung’s Single Take mode.
