Google Pixel 4 can export frames from video in Google Photos

Trying to capture the right moment can be a major challenge, although features like burst mode make things much easier. Google also has an alternative approach, as the new Pixel 4 series now lets you export frames from a recorded video.

The new feature — spotted by 9to5Google — appears in the Google Photos edit menu as a large “export frame” button. The outlet reports that frames saved in this fashion are either saved at 1,920 x 1,080 (2MP) or 3,840 x 2,160 (8.2MP). We’ve also spotted the feature on our own Pixel 4 — check it out below.

Frames grabbed via this feature won’t receive the HDR+ treatment though, but there’s always Google’s Top Shot feature as well as a burst video mode via the Pixel 4 shutter key. In fact, 9to5Google noted that when viewing a burst video clip in Google Photos, you’ll get an option to extract an HDR shot.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen the ability to capture frames from a recorded video either. The likes of HTC, Samsung, and Nokia all offered this ability in years gone by, but it’s still a useful feature if the subject is proving difficult to capture.

Hopefully Google brings export frame functionality to Google Photos at large, as it would give this feature to loads of other devices that might not have a native option.
