You'll take a massive loss on Google Store trading in older Pixels for Pixel 4
Looks like Google doesn’t appreciate your loyalty as a Pixel user, or at least that’s the impression you might get looking at the Pixel trade-in program on the Google Store. If you are a proud owner of a fully functional Pixel 3 XL the most you can get from Google in a trade-in value is $260 against the cost of a new Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL. That’s on a phone which cost almost $900 when it launched a year back.
So basically, your top-of-the-line Pixel 3 XL, which is still a pretty good flagship phone to have, is worth almost a third of its full value if you paid nine hundred bucks for it.
If you thought that was a bad deal, wait till you see Google’s trade-in prices for other Pixel 4 predecessors:

Google’s trade-in offers for older Pixel phones are definitely stingy to say the least. In comparison, if you go in for a Galaxy Note 10 or a Galaxy S10 in exchange for your Pixel 3 or 3XL, Samsung will give you a trade-in discount of $450 on the phones. That’s almost double the value Google is offering for its own device.
If that’s not enough to convince you that Google is giving you a bad trade-in deal, we checked what other retailers have to offer for last year’s Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Even Best Buy’s offer is $40 better that Google’s for a 64GB Pixel 3 XL. The outlet will give you a trade in value of $300 for the device.
The only other retailer giving you a deal worse that the Google Store is Target. Here, you will get trade-in deals for the Pixel 3 and 3XL anywhere between $165 to $192 depending on the condition of your devices.
In contrast, if you are willing to trade-in your iPhone XS Max with 512GB storage for the Pixel 4 or 4 XL, you get a trade-in value of up to $600 on the Google Store. That’s way more love Google is showing for ex iPhone users that its own loyal customers. Trading in a Galaxy S10 for the Pixel 4 will also get you slightly more value that trading in your Pixel 3 on the Google Store. Meanwhile some folks are even asking for anywhere between $280 to $344 for an unlocked 64GB Pixel 3 on eBay.
What Google is offering you is a limited time $100 Google Store credit to purchase accessories for the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL if you pre-order the phones.
