Google Pixel phones now make it easier to find that mystery caller
- Google is rolling out a new Reverse Phone Number Lookup feature with the new June 2024 Pixel Feature Drop.
- This feature lets you look up a phone number straight from the call log, saving you a few steps.
- The feature is available on Pixel 6 and newer Pixel smartphones, including the Pixel Fold.
Google Pixel smartphones improve over time as Google irons out bugs and releases new features through regular Pixel Feature Drops. Google is rolling out a new update today in the form of the June 2024 Pixel Feature Drop, and it adds a brand new feature to Pixel phones that is similar to what Truecaller does.
Google is rolling out Reverse Phone Number Lookup in the June 2024 Pixel Feature Drop through an update to the Google Phone app intended for Pixel devices. This feature lets you look up unknown phone numbers that have called you or you have called, straight from your call log, without needing to navigate to a second app or service. This saves you from the hassle of copying the number and pasting into a Google Search field or feeding it into apps like Truecaller.
Google doesn’t go into details on what is powering the Reverse Phone Number Lookup Feature under the hood. However, the company does mention that the feature will be available to Pixel 6 and newer Pixel smartphones, including the Pixel Fold. Thus, all Pixel smartphones with a Tensor chip can enjoy this feature.
Google also doesn’t mention any geographical restrictions in place for the feature, though my guess is that it would be restricted to certain regions like the USA at launch.
Google has not mentioned any intentions to release this feature outside of Pixel smartphones, either. So if you want to reverse lookup a phone number on a non-Pixel smartphone, third-party apps still remain your best bet.
