Google Pixel 3a to receive one more update before going off into oblivion
- The Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL will receive a final update in July.
- The devices will likely not receive the June 2022 update.
The Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL are at the end of their lives, as far as Google is concerned, but the company still plans on giving them one more update.
The Pixel 3a devices were one of Google’s greatest hits, providing a roadmap for the company to follow in subsequent versions. The phones were exceptionally well-priced, offered solid performance, decent battery life, and the features average users wanted. Despite the phones still going strong three years later, they reached the end of their officially supported lifespan in May 2022. Nonetheless, it appears the line will receive one last update in July.

Google provided the following statement to 9to5Google:
“In May 2019, at the launch of the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL, we announced that the devices would receive three years of software updates and three years of security updates from when our devices first became available on the Google Store. The final update for Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL will rollout to users by July 2022.”
With the July 2022 update being its last, it’s unlikely the Pixel 3a series will receive a June update. Users should plan on replacing their Pixel 3a devices sooner rather than later, since they will no longer receive security updates after July. As a result, the longer it goes unpatched, using the Pixel 3a series will become an increasingly dangerous proposition.
