Google Play Movies & TV videos can now stream in 4K with NVIDIA Shield TV
Owners of the Android TV-based NVIDIA Shield TV set-top boxes can now stream supported videos in 4K from the Google Play Movies & TV app. The new support joins other apps that can also stream in 4K on the NVIDIA Shield TV, including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube.
Keep in mind that only a small section of 4K videos are currently available from the Google Play Movies & TV app, and of course you will still need a 4K TV to check out the videos at their highest current resolution. There’s also the fact that the prices for 4K movies and TV shows are much higher than their SD or HD counterparts.
In addition to the new support from Google’s app, the Shield TV box now allows mobile device owners with 4K content support to cast it to the box, so any such content can be viewed on the big screen. If you have get to get the NVIDIA Shield after reading about its 4K support, be aware that the version with 16 GB of storage is still selling for $199.99, while the Pro version with 500 GB is priced at $299.99.
