Add Android Authority on Google:
TL;DR
  • The latest Google Wallet build reveals a new toggle that could let users automatically save passes from supported partners.
  • We’ve also discovered a new “Agents” option in the account switcher that points to new agentic AI features.

Google Wallet is constantly adding new features and experimenting with different designs. The app recently received a vertical card stack redesign that changed how users browse their stored cards, and Google has also introduced receipt scanning to help users keep track of their purchases. Now, we’ve spotted signs that the company could be working on two more additions that’ll make Wallet more convenient and better suited to Google’s growing agentic AI ambitions.

While digging through Google Wallet version 26.41.996630916, we found a new “Auto add from partners” toggle in the app’s settings, alongside a new “Agents” option in the account switcher. While neither feature is currently functional, the strings and links associated with them offer some clues about what Google might have planned.

Google Wallet might make saving passes much easier

The new “Auto add from partners” toggle is located under the Passes category in Google Wallet’s settings. It appears to let users choose whether they want passes from supported partners to be saved automatically.

The setting includes a Learn more link that currently leads to an unpublished Google support page. However, the URL contains the term “trusted_partner_passes,” suggesting how the feature might work.

In this context, Google’s trusted partners appear to refer to businesses and organizations that integrate with Wallet. These could include airlines, retailers, loyalty programs, event organizers, and ticket providers. Google’s partner directory also includes companies that help other businesses integrate with Wallet, so the potential scope of the feature could extend beyond the businesses that issue passes directly.

The wording could be confusing for some users, especially those familiar with Google Photos’ Partner sharing feature, which lets people automatically share photos with a specific Google account. In Wallet, the term appears to refer to a business or service relationship rather than personal sharing.

How automatic pass saving could work

Google Wallet already offers several ways to add and manage passes, but they don’t all work the same way.

Users can manually add supported passes by scanning their QR codes or scanning a physical pass to capture its relevant details. This works, but it requires users to manually digitize something. Google also supports automatic pass imports from Gmail.

There’s also a feature called Automatically add linked passes. This lets pass providers add related items, such as event tickets, promotions, and offers, to Wallet. For example, an airline could send a boarding pass linked to an existing loyalty card.

The new “Auto add from partners toggle” could introduce another way to add passes to Wallet.

It’s possible Google wants supported services to provide passes directly to Wallet. This could make it easier to collect loyalty cards, tickets, and other eligible passes without manually scanning them or relying on Gmail imports.

For now, the new toggle suggests Google is exploring a more automated way to manage passes, but we’ll have to wait for more information to understand how it works.

New Agents option

The second new thing we discovered in the latest Google Wallet update is a new “Agents” entry in the account switcher.

Tapping the option currently opens a URL on Google’s Wallet website, but the destination returns an error indicating that the page can’t be found. The URL includes the terms “agenthub” and “agent_tasks,” suggesting that Google could be preparing a dedicated destination for agentic AI functionality.

Google has already been exploring ways to connect Wallet with Gemini, including the Google Wallet integration in Gemini. The company has also been working on agentic checkouts with Google Pay, which aim to bring AI agents into parts of the shopping and payment process.

The new Agents option may be related to these efforts, but we weren’t able to determine exactly what Google is planning.

It’s also worth noting that the option’s presence in Wallet doesn’t necessarily mean users will be able to initiate payments or authorize purchases directly through an AI agent within the app. We haven’t found evidence confirming that functionality.

We’ll keep an eye on subsequent Wallet updates for more clues about how these features develop.
