  • Google is finally rolling out Samsung phone support for Googlebook’s Better Together features, including Continue On, Cast My Apps, Quick Access, and Notification Sync.
  • A Google Play Services update will simplify setup and fix an issue that sometimes leaves the setup QR code on the screen after pairing.
  • The updates will roll out automatically over the next few days, but users need Android 17, compatible service versions, and the correct connectivity settings for the features to work.

Google is rolling out updates for Googlebooks to fix some of the problems users have faced since launch. The updates intend to make initial setup easier and, more importantly, bring support for Samsung phones to the laptops’ Better Together features.

Google community specialist Mishaal Rahman announced the changes in a Reddit post. The biggest change is obviously support for Samsung phones running One UI 9 based on Android 17. As we reported previously, Googlebooks launched without support for Samsung’s devices, leaving some buyers unable to use the cross-device features that are supposed to make these laptops work seamlessly with Android phones.

One Reddit user even said they had to return their Googlebook because it didn’t work with their Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. Google subsequently confirmed that Samsung support would arrive in the following weeks.

That support is now rolling out, bringing four Better Together features to compatible Samsung phones, including Continue On, Cast My Apps, Quick Access, and Notification Sync. These features are designed to make it easier to move between your phone and laptop.

Google is also updating Google Play Services to simplify the initial setup of Cross-device services. The update should also fix an issue where the setup QR code sometimes remains on the screen even after phone setup is finished.

Both updates will roll out automatically over the next few days through Google Play and background service updates. Google says the rollout will be fastest when devices are connected to Wi-Fi and charging.

Having trouble setting up Googlebook? Here’s what to check

If you’re still having trouble getting your phone and Googlebook to work together, Google has shared a few things to check.

First, your phone needs to run Android 17. Samsung users will also need One UI 9. Both devices must use the same personal Google Account and have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled.

Google also recommends using a private home Wi-Fi network. Hotel, cafe, office, and guest networks can block direct connections between devices, preventing some features from working. If you use a VPN or a network DNS blocker, try turning it off temporarily.

You’ll also need Google Play Services version 26.37 or later and Cross-device services version 1.0.1346 or later. If everything is up to date but the features still don’t work, Google recommends checking that the relevant Continue activity settings are enabled and restarting both devices.

For more detailed instructions, Google recommends checking out its updated troubleshooting guide.
