Gwent mobile game finally comes to Android — Download it now
Update: March 24, 2020 (4:50 PM ET): It’s finally here. Nearly an entire year after we first heard The Witcher 3’s mini-game was coming to Android, it has finally landed in the Play Store. Gwent is free-to-play, and you can download it right now at the link below.
Original: March 27, 2019 (9:25 AM ET): The Witcher 3 is one of the most critically acclaimed games of the last decade, and the title’s Gwent mini-game has even spawned a spin-off of its own. Now, publisher CD Projekt Red has announced that Gwent is coming to smartphones.
The studio confirmed that the card game was coming to iOS later this year, but said details on an Android release would be revealed “at a later date.”
It’s a pretty disappointing turn of events for Android users, as it looks like yet another game will land on Apple devices way ahead of Android. It’s certainly understandable from a developer’s perspective, as there are literally thousands of different Android-powered phones out there compared to the dozens of iPhones and iPads. It doesn’t help Android’s cause when App Annie data shows that Apple owners are more likely to spend cash on apps than Android owners.
A CD Projekt Red spokesperson didn’t share a reason for the Android delay, but confirmed that the title would be free-to-play. Little else is known about Gwent on smartphones, save for the fact that it’ll use GoG Galaxy to power multiplayer sessions.
