Hangouts Dialer update now lets you place calls from inside other apps
A few months ago, the whole world rejoiced as Google finally began integrating Hangouts and Google Voice. The reason I say they “began integrating” is because they never really finished the process. With the introduction of the Hangouts Dialer, users could place calls using their Google Voice number through Hangouts. However, you could only place calls if you opened the app, typed in a number, and pressed the send button. If you were in a different app like Chrome or Maps and tried placing a call by tapping on a phone number, your phone would pull up your normal phone app or whatever app you had as default.
Today that all changes, because Google is pushing out an update to the Google Dialer app that allows the system to recognize that it’s an actual phone dialer. Once you grab the update through Google Play, head to a phone number in an application, click it, and you should be prompted to use either the Hangouts Dialer or the stock Phone app. You even have the option to choose Hangouts Dialer to handle every phone call you make.
You can grab the update from Google Play now. What do you think of the change? Let us know in the comments.
