HONOR 20, HONOR 20 Pro teased: Expect fancy 'Dynamic Holographic' design
We’ve known for a while now that the HONOR 20 series was coming this month and the HUAWEI sub-brand has now revealed a few more details about the phones.
The company confirmed that we can expect a standard and Pro model. These phones will be joined by the HONOR 20 Lite, which was previously announced earlier this week. So what should you know about the HONOR 20 and HONOR 20 Pro then?
The sub-brand has dished out a few tidbits, starting with design details. HONOR says the two phones will be the company’s first to offer a “multi-dimensional, Dynamic Holographic glass back” made using “Triple 3D Mesh” technology.

The firm says this glass back is made via a two-stage process, starting with the creation of a depth layer “embedded with millions of miniature prisms that resemble pieces of diamonds.” Once this process is completed, the company then combines the layer with a glass layer and a second layer coated in the main color.
HONOR president George Zhao noted in a press release that for every 100 back covers produced via this method, only 20 meet the firm’s standards. So it’s clearly a rather challenging process to get these covers out of the door.
The firm also served up a few more details, noting that the series will have a 6.26-inch display with a 91.6 percent screen/body ratio and a punch-hole camera measuring 4.5mm across. Oddly enough, the company is also using a side-mounted fingerprint scanner on the right-hand side of the phones. This suggests that we won’t see in-display fingerprint sensors here, bucking a major trend in 2019.
The HONOR 20 series launch takes place on May 21, so we’ll have to wait until then for a more comprehensive look at the phones.
