HONOR 9X to launch in India this month alongside Magic Watch 2, Magic Book
Update: January 3, 2020 (5:30 PM ET): The HONOR 9X and HONOR 9X Pro initially launched in China in the middle of 2019. Since then, the standard 9X has landed across Europe, including Russia and the Netherlands. Now, HONOR fans in India will also be able to get their hands on the device as of January 14 (h/t: BGR India).
After HONOR teased the India launch of the 9X, we now know the wait is almost over, and customers will be able to pick up the device from Flipkart as soon as it’s available. Unfortunately, we haven’t heard any word of the 9X Pro making its way to India yet.
HONOR is also expected to launch its Magic Watch 2 wearable and Magic Book laptop in India alongside the handest. We don’t know the India prices for these devices quite yet, but we assume the HONOR 9X will come in near the same price point as it is in other markets, starting at about Rs. 14,570 (~$203).
Original Article: July 3, 2019 (4:35 AM ET): HONOR has launched the HONOR 9X and HONOR 9X Pro today in China. The new smartphone pair — sequels to the HONOR 8X launched in September 2018 — feature bezel-less displays and pop-up selfie cameras.
The standard HONOR 9X comes with 4GB or 6GB RAM and 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, while the Pro model (seen below) houses 8GB RAM and 128GB or 256GB internal storage. There’s also a triple rear camera on the back of the Pro model, with a 48MP main sensor, 8MP wide-angle lens, and 2MP depth sensor, compared to a dual 48MP+2MP camera on the regular model.
Both phones feature an octa-core Kirin 810 chipset, which is built on 7nm process technology and was first seen on the HUAWEI Nova 5, though the HONOR 9X Pro chip shouldn’t run as hot as its sibling thanks to additional liquid cooling.
The handsets also come with bezel-less, 6.6-inch, LCD displays at Full-HD+ resolution, 16MP front cameras, MicroSD card support, and GPU Turbo 3.0 support. They’re powered by 4,000mAh batteries with USB-C connectivity charging at 5V/2A (basically equivalent to Quick Charge 1.0).

HONOR 9X and 9X Pro price and release date
The HONOR 9X is up for pre-order from today in China ahead of its release on July 30, while the 9X Pro pre-orders start July 30 before a release August 9. The phones’ prices in China are as follows:
- HONOR 9X (4GB+64GB) 1399 Yuan (~$203)
- HONOR 9X (6GB+64GB) 1599 Yuan (~$232)
- HONOR 9X (6GB+128GB) 1899 Yuan (~$276)
- HONOR 9X Pro (8GB+128GB) 2199 Yuan (~$320)
- HONOR 9X Pro (8GB+256GB) 2399 Yuan (~$349)
Like the HONOR 8X before it, the HONOR 9X range is likely to head to other territories within the months following its release. Though the phones will see a price hike outside of China, if the 9X still manages to start in the sub-$300 realm, it’ll certainly be one to watch. You can’t find many great-looking phones with a pop-up camera at that price.
We’ll have more on the HONOR 9X and 9X Pro in the coming weeks. Until then, give us your thoughts on the handsets in the comments below.
