HONOR reveals Magic OS 7.0 update: Here's when it will come to your phone
- HONOR has announced the Magic OS 7.0 skin, based on Android 13.
- The update brings improved cross-device connectivity for HONOR ecosystem devices.
- HONOR will push the update to over a dozen smartphone models.
Honor’s phones are powered by the Magic OS skin, with Magic OS 6.2 being the latest version. Now, the company has revealed Magic OS 7.0, based on Android 13 (h/t: GSMArena). Here’s what you need to know about it.
Magic OS 7.0 brings a visual overhaul for starters, offering a so-called HONOR Sans font, tweaked animations, and more. Moving to the features, it offers a similar take on multi-device interconnectivity as HUAWEI’s EMUI (dubbed MagicRing). That means you have a circular UI and you swipe outwards from the center to the relevant HONOR device to connect to it. HONOR allows you to share files, your clipboard, and more via this feature.
HONOR is also touting AI-powered features as part of its Magic Live Smart Engine suite. These features include a so-called YoYo smart assistant and text-related features (e.g. drawing a circle around text with your knuckle to extract it, as well as smarter page scanning).
The Chinese brand revealed a so-called Turbo X system engine as well. This engine claims to offer smoother performance, faster app launches, improved battery life, signal enhancement (e.g. when in an elevator), and better long-term performance.
Other notable Magic OS 7.0 features include a privacy and security dashboard, RemoteGuard functionality for kids, and a split keyboard for foldables.
Magic OS 7.0 roadmap
HONOR has also posted a roadmap for the Android 13-based update on its Chinese website. The list of supported devices is pretty extensive and can be found below. It’s worth stressing though that this is the Chinese roadmap, so the global schedule might differ.
December 2022
- HONOR Magic V
- HONOR Magic 3/3 Pro/3 Ultimate
- HONOR V40
January 2023
- HONOR Magic 4/4 Pro/4 Ultimate
February 2023
- HONOR 70/70 Pro/70 Pro Plus
March 2023
- HONOR 50/50 Pro
- HONOR 60/60 Pro
April 2023
- HONOR X40 GT
May 2023
- HONOR X30
- HONOR X40
- HONOR V40 Light Luxury Edition
There are a few notable omissions though, such as cheaper X-series phones (e.g. X8 and X6), some Lite devices, and the Play line. Some of these omissions are particularly disappointing given that a few of these devices are recent releases. So hopefully we see them appear on the global roadmap.
