How to change the clock font on an iPhone lockscreen
You don't even have to unlock to start making cosmetic changes.
With iOS 16, Apple finally began tackling public demand for more iPhone lockscreen customization, closer to what Android and even Apple Watch users have had for years. One aspect one of this is alternate fonts — here’s how to change the clock font on an iPhone.
How to change the clock font on an iPhone lockscreen
From the lockscreen
The easiest way to switch fonts is from the lockscreen itself. Don’t worry — while it looks like there are a lot of steps, it’s very intuitive in practice.
- Wake your iPhone, then tap and hold on an “empty” part of the lockscreen (i.e. no text or icons).
- Tap Customize.
- Select Lock Screen.
- Tap on the clock.
- Choose from one of the displayed fonts.
- To change the color of the clock, use the palette tools at the bottom of the screen. If you swipe all the way to the right side of the palette, you can access a custom color picker. Note that you can’t set separate colors for the clock versus widgets and the date.
- Tap X to close the font panel.
- Tap Done to finish customization.
From the Settings app
Normally this is less convenient, but it offers an option if you’re already beyond the lockscreen.
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and select Wallpaper.
- Swipe to select the wallpaper pair you want to customize, then tap Customize under its lockscreen.
