How to customize buttons on the OnePlus 5

Oxygen OS might look quite a lot like stock Android on the outside, but deep inside the settings menu the company has furnished the operating system with offer a huge number of different customization options for you to enjoy. A lot of manufacturers will set buttons to different functions and just tell you that’s how it’s going to be, but not OnePlus. The company has included a menu within the settings which allows you to manipulate how a lot of these buttons work, and we’re going to show you what you can do with them.

How to customize buttons on the OnePlus 5

Under “Customization” in the settings menu, you’ll find a section labeled “Buttons”. This is where you’ll want to go to change the way all of these hardware keys work, and gosh are there a lot of options to explore. Here are the options you can change:

• Backlight – Turns the backlight on or off for capacitive keys
• Swap buttons – Swap the order of recents and back buttons
• On-screen navigation bar – Enables an on-screen navigation bar.
• Always enable home button – Keeps the hardware home button working even with the on-screen home button
• Press power twice for camera – Launches the camera with two taps of the home button
• Home button long press action – Choose an action for when you long press the home button
• Home button double tap action – Choose an action for when you double tap the home button
• Recents button long press action – Choose an action for when you long press the recents button
• Recents button double tap action – Choose an action for when you double tap the recents button
• Back button long press action – Choose an action for when you long press the back button
• Back button double tap action – Choose an action for when you double tap the back button

There’s quite a lot you can do here, as you can set custom functions to almost every hardware key on the device. I’m personally using the long press of the back button to open split screen.
