Update (03/20): The HTCDesire 12 is now official—get all the details here.
Last week, we talked about how HTC might be releasing a new phone in the Desire series, and it was rumored to go by the moniker HTCDesire 12. We can now 100% confirm that is true. What’s more, we can confirm the specs for the device as listed on the retail box for the upcoming entry-level smartphone.
According to the box, the HTCDesire 12 will have a 64-bit, quad-core MediaTek chipset with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. It will have a 5.5-inch, 18:9 aspect ratio display with a 720 x 1,440 (HD+) resolution. The 12 MP rear-facing camera shoots 1080p video, and the front-facing camera comes in at 5 MP. It also has a 2,730 mAh battery, and there are slots for two nano-SIMs and a microSD card.
With these specs coming from the retail box for the HTCDesire 12, it’s only a matter of time before we’ll have a photo or render of the actual device itself. After that, pricing and a release date will surely follow.
HTC has been struggling as a company recently, and a new entry in the Desire series could help it recoup some of its losses. As we get closer to Mobile World Congress 2018, you can expect more information for the latest and greatest smartphones to emerge.
