HTC U11, HTCU Ultra and HTC10 will get Android Oreo, confirms HTC

Though Android Nougat isn’t yet commonplace — it’s on less than 15% of Android smartphones — eyes are now turning towards its recently revealed successor, Android 8.0 Oreo. The new software arrived earlier this week, so you can expect to hear lots about device updates in the coming months.

We already have some ideas as to which phones will get the Android 8.0 Oreo update and when, but HTChas been one of the fastest out of the gates to deliver a hard confirmation. In a tweet sent out yesterday, HTCwrote that the HTC U11, the HTC U Ultra and the HTC 10 would all get the update to Android Oreo worldwide.

These devices are pretty obvious choices as far as HTC’s updates are concerned — they’re phones that would have been expected to receive Oreo, so HTChasn’t really put its neck on the line here.

Still, the confirmation is welcome, especially with regards to the HTC10. This launched with Marshmallow in 2016, and though it should be obvious that it will receive two major upgrades, that doesn’t always happen. The OnePlus 2 won’t receive a second major Android update, while the LG G4, LG’s 2015 flagship, is still waiting on Nougat in the US, and it too may never arrive.

For this reason, we’re also pleased that HTCstates that the updates will roll out worldwide, not just in certain regions.

HTC has been one of the fastest manufacturers to roll out Android Nougat updates so far and pushed it out to its HTC10 in just over 90 days; there appears to be no reason why it can’t deliver Oreo in a timely manner also, but it hasn’t yet provided a timeline.
