HUAWEI says the HUAWEI P30 series will get Android Q.

Huawei‘s U.S. trade ban has complicated Android updates for the company, although a 90-day reprieve has helped in this regard. Now, HUAWEI has confirmed that it’s bringing Android Q to the P30 series.

The manufacturer made this announcement via a HUAWEI Answers page on its website, clarifying the update situation for its wares.

“Our most popular current devices, including the P30 series, will be able to access Android Q. In fact, we have already launched a beta developer programme for Android Q which is running right now on our Mate 20 Pro device,” reads an excerpt of the page.

“We have been working with third parties for many months to ensure devices will be able to receive Android Q updates. Technical preparations and testing has already begun for over 17 devices,” the company added. “In fact our Mate 20 Pro has already been given approval to receive Android Q as and when it is released by Google.”

In addition to the P30 series and Mate 20 Pro, HUAWEI has also listed all the devices it has submitted for approval to gain access to Android Q. This doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll all get Android Q in theory, as HUAWEI hasn’t said that they’ve all actually received approval. Nevertheless, these devices are shown below:

  • P30 Pro
  • P30
  • Mate 20
  • Mate 20 Pro
  • Porsche Design Mate 20 RS
  • P30 lite
  • P smart 2019
  • P smart+ 2019
  • P smart Z
  • Mate 20 X
  • Mate 20 X (5G)
  • P20 Pro
  • P20
  • Mate 10 Pro
  • Porsche Design Mate 10
  • Mate 10

Thanks to a source familiar with HONOR’s plans, we’re also able to confirm that the HONOR 20 series (HONOR 20, HONOR 20 Pro, HONOR 20 Lite) will receive Android Q, along with several other “key” HONOR models released in 2019.

One of the biggest concerns surrounding the update to Android Q is whether these phones will lose access to Google services following the update. But we’re told that Google services should work fine following the OTA update.

We don’t have official confirmation on when we can expect Android Q to hit each device if approved, but HUAWEI will likely want to push full-steam ahead. Google previously launched Android Pie in August, and this is the same month that HUAWEI’s limited 90-day reprieve ends. So the Chinese manufacturer will undoubtedly be hoping that Google delivers it before this window closes.
