Does HUAWEI's failed US launch tarnish your view of the company? [Poll of the Week]

Last week’s poll summary: This was a close one. Out of almost 2,300 total votes, 42.9% of our readers said they would buy a foldable, dual-screen smartphone, while 49.8% said they wouldn’t. 14.3% of voters are still undecided.

Even though Huawei has sold unlocked smartphones in the US for years, the company’s long-term goal has always been to launch with a US carrier partner. That started coming true in December, when CEO Richard Yu announced that its Mate 10 Pro would launch in the US in 2018 with a carrier. Unfortunately things didn’t pan out the way HUAWEI had hoped.

HUAWEI was put in a tight spot when AT&T pulled out of the deal at the last minute. According to The Information’s report, AT&T called off the deal due to “political pressure” after Senate and House intelligence committees sent a letter to the FCC raising concerns about HUAWEI’s plans. The letter reportedly “cited an intelligence committee report on HUAWEI’s alleged ties to the Communist Party as well as China’s intelligence and security services.”

Of course, this report hasn’t been confirmed by HUAWEI or AT&T, so we do need to take it with a grain of salt. However, this is a lot more controversy than most manufacturers stir up when launching a new phone, which leads us to this week’s poll. Has your view on HUAWEI changed after its failed US launch?
