It looks like the HUAWEI P20 Pro isn't the only device that will get a leather back.

TL;DR
  • Two new HUAWEI devices just passed through the Chinese regulatory agency TENAA’s website.
  • The devices are enormous with a 7.12-inch screen on one, and a 6.5-inch screen on another.
  • The larger device has a faux leather backing and appears to be a repurposed HONOR 8X Max.

At the end of August, we found out that Huawei plans to release some new color variants of the HUAWEI P20 Pro, including a new faux-leather backed version, akin to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from way back in 2013. Now we have TENAA listings for two new HUAWEI devices, one of which also has a leather-like backing.

The first device comes in two variants: the HUAWEI ARS-AL00 (Black) and the HUAWEI ARS-TL00 (White). The smartphone appears to essentially be a repurposed HONOR 8X Max with some slightly upgraded specs.

HUAWEI P20 Pro launch

Just like the HONOR 8X Max, this new, as-yet-unnamed device is incredibly large with a 7.12-inch notched display. The camera, screen resolution, and dimensions of the device all appear to match the HONOR 8X Max — but the chipsets are different. While TENAA listings don’t give specifics on chipsets, the chipset in the ARS-AL00 and the ARS-TL00 both clock at 1.95GHz, which is a little better than the 8X Max’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 clocked at 1.8GHz.

The most notable feature though of this new device (besides its enormousness) is the faux-leather backing complete with fake stitches. This makes the device look like a really big version of the Note 3, albeit without an included stylus.

The second device to hit TENAA is the slightly smaller JKM-AL00. This could be an updated HUAWEI Y9 or maybe it will be called the HUAWEI Y10, but we are not sure. It will have a 6.5-inch 2,340 x 1,080 notched display, dual cameras on the rear, and an octa-core CPU clocked at 2.2GHz (maybe a Kirin 710).

TENAA listings usually come really close right before a launch, so it’s likely we’ll know what these devices are in the next few weeks.
