HUAWEI Mate 30 series renders surface, including Porsche model (Update)
Update, September 17, 2019 (8:44AM ET): We had a comprehensive look at the Mate 30 family yesterday courtesy of prolific leaker Evan Blass. But the tipster is back with more apparent Mate 30 series images.
The latest round of leaks shows off all the colorways we can seemingly expect for the vanilla Mate 30 (left) and the Mate 30 Pro (right). According to Blass, the colors are Space Silver, Cosmic Purple, Black, and Emerald Green. Check out the lineup above.
The colorways also come after a demo stand purportedly leaked, listing a few Mate 30 Pro features. The stand suggests that the Mate 30 Pro will offer 7,680fps video recording, two 40MP rear cameras, and 27W wireless charging.
Original article, September 16, 2019 (2:20AM ET): We’ve seen numerous leaked HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro renders in recent months, but we haven’t seen much of other Mate 30 series devices. Fortunately, a ton of images have now surfaced online courtesy of serial tipster Evan Blass.
Blass posted apparent renders of the series on Twitter (locked account), showing not only the Mate 30 Pro but the standard Mate 30 and Mate 30 Lite too.
Starting with the Mate 30 Pro (seen above), we see a device that’s in line with other leaked renders. So that means a wide notch for several selfie cameras and presumably face unlock sensors, as well as a circular rear camera housing.
The rest of the lineup
The standard Mate 30 (seen above) seems to possess a much narrower notch, featuring two cameras and a tiny sensor on the cutout. Switch to the back and you’ve got a similar circular camera housing here. There’s no fingerprint scanner on the back, as we saw on the vanilla Mate 20, so we can assume it’s of the in-display variety this time.
Meanwhile, the Mate 30 Lite render (seen below) shows a phone that looks similar to the standard Mate 20, albeit with a punch-hole cutout instead of a notch. We’ve got last year’s square camera housing here (featuring what appear to be four rear cameras), and a rear fingerprint scanner too.
But the biggest surprise is the HUAWEI Mate 30 Porsche Design model (seen in the featured image, and below), with Blass’s leaked renders showing a phone with a leather back and Porsche branding. The camera housing forms part of a strip that runs down to the bottom of the phone.
Move to the front and we can make out three selfie sensors on the Porsche model, suggesting that there is indeed a notch here. We also notice what seems to be a waterfall screen of sorts, looking like a much sharper drop-off than on the Mate 30 Pro.
It’s also interesting to note that renders for all but the Mate 30 Lite show 5G connectivity icons. This could well be a placeholder graphic, but the Kirin 990 chipset will indeed be available in 4G and 5G variants. Those wanting a 5G Mate 30 series phone might not have to go for the absolute top-end model, then.
The HUAWEI Mate 30 series launch is set to take place on Thursday September 19, so we’ll hear all the official details there. But one thing you shouldn’t expect is Google integration, owing to the U.S. trade ban against HUAWEI. The Chinese brand has previously said it’s investigating the ability for users to install Google services after purchasing the phone.
