HUAWEI Mate SE is an HONOR 7X with more RAM and storage
- The HUAWEI Mate SE has just been released in the US
- It is almost identical to the HONOR 7X but with more RAM and storage.
- The phone is currently available on Amazon for $229.99.
HUAWEI has had a pretty complicated start to 2018. First, it had a deal to sell its flagship Mate 10 Pro via AT&T scuppered at the last minute. Its attempts to sell the phone with retailers were then embroiled in a controversy over suggestions that the Chinese company had recruited people to leave fake reviews for the handset on Best Buy.
The most recent blow to the company occurred when six US intelligence chiefs recommended against using HUAWEI phones due to the company’s alleged links to the Chinese government. However, this hasn’t stopped HUAWEI releasing phones in the US and its latest, the Mate SE, has just been made available unlocked via major retailers.
The device looks almost identical to the previously released HONOR 7X (from HUAWEI’s sub-brand HONOR), though it houses some improved specifications. It has a 5.9-inch, 18:9, FHD+ display with minimal bezels, HiSilicon Kirin 659 chip and a dual lens 16 MP + 2 MP camera—all of which can also be found on the 7X. However, inside it has an extra GB of RAM (4 GB instead of 3 GB) and twice as much storage (64 GB vs 32 GB).
In our review of the 7X, we gave it a score of 8.3 out of 10 and called it “arguably the best value Android device ever made.” The Mate SE is currently available for only $229.99 on Amazon—only slightly more expensive than the $199 that the HONOR 7X is selling for. For those who want a 7X with better performance and more storage, the Mate SE looks like equally good value; check it out at the link below.
