How to import and export bookmarks from Firefox

Whether you’re switching to or from Firefox, you will probably want to bring your bookmarks with you. If you were wondering how to import and export bookmarks from Firefox, here’s an easy guide to do that and ensure you don’t lose any bookmarks.

To import bookmarks from Firefox, go to Bookmarks > Manage bookmarks. Click the button with arrows pointing up and down, then choose Import data from another browser to move bookmarks from your main browser. To import from HTML, choose Import bookmarks from HTML. How to import bookmarks on Firefox for desktop (MacOS)

First, go to the Bookmarks menu, either in the menu above the Firefox window, or in the main applications menu on the right side of the window.

In the Library window that opens, click the button with the up and down symbol to open the import and export settings. Here, you can either Import Bookmarks from HTML or Import Data from another browser. You can either upload an HTML file with bookmarks to import, or press Import Data from another browser to move it from a selected browser on your computer.

The Import wizard will launch and walk you through several steps when you choose to import from another browser. You must choose which browser you’re importing from, which profile (if applicable), and if you want to import other data. Then you’re done.

How to export bookmarks on Firefox for desktop

First, go to the Bookmarks menu, either above the Firefox window, or in the applications menu on the right side of the window.

Next, click the button with the up and down symbol to open the import and export settings. Here, you can choose Export bookmarks to HTML.

Then, you will be prompted to name and save the bookmarks as an HTML file. You can then import the bookmarks to whichever browser you’re switching to.

How to import and export bookmarks on Firefox for mobile

Currently, Firefox for iOS and Android don’t support importing and exporting bookmarks directly. Instead, you’ll have to sync your bookmarks with Firefox on your desktop computer using your Firefox account.

On the far right of the window, press the three-line symbol to access the applications menu. Click on your email address at the top, or sign in to access account settings.

You can press Sync now to sync your bookmarks with other devices from the account menu.

FAQs

Bookmarks on Firefox are stored locally on your computer. You can access this folder by typing about:profile in the URL bar of Firefox and clicking Open folder or Show in Finder on the Root directory. Your bookmarks can be found inside your profile folder in another folder called bookmarkbackups.

On desktop, deleting a bookmark can be done in the bookmark manager by right-clicking and selecting Delete. On mobile, press the three-dot symbol on the right of the bookmark in the bookmark menu and press delete bookmark.
