iPhone 15 could finally have more than a measly 6GB of RAM
- A report claims that Apple will “bump up the capacity and specifications” of RAM on the iPhone 15.
- It’s rumored that the RAM would go up from 6GB to 8GB.
- The Pro models may be the only ones getting the RAM increase.
For years, Apple’s iPhones have been stuck with a measly 6GB of RAM. But a new report claims that Apple could be ready to deliver a much-needed upgrade to this aspect of the iPhone 15.
According to a report from Taiwanese research firm TrendForce, Apple could be considering increasing the RAM in its next iPhone. Specifically, the report says “Apple will bump up the capacity and specifications” of RAM on the iPhone 15 series. Although the report shies away from giving any specifics, the wording suggests we’ll see improvements in the amount of RAM and speed across the lineup.
If Apple does give its phones more RAM, this could help the next-generation iPhone with multitasking and performance. For example, more apps could run in the background simultaneously.
In an earlier report, the firm claimed that the iPhone 15 may “feature a memory capacity upgrade to 8GB to match its new processor.” However, it pointed out that the Pro models may be the only ones getting the RAM boost.
This means the standard model and the Plus may still feature only 6GB of RAM. But there’s a chance that the standard and Plus models could at least be upgraded to LPDDR5 RAM, given that Apple gave it to the iPhone 14 Pro last year.
In addition to this news, we also know that Apple will ditch the lightning port in favor of a USB-C port in its next phone. Rumors also have claimed that Apple could give its next phone a state-of-the-art camera courtesy of Sony.
