Original post, July 1, 2019 (1:25 pm ET): Likely because it’s a holiday week in the U.S., Google has begun pushing out the July 2019 Android security update early. As usual, the firmware patch fixes several vulnerabilities found in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) repository. Additionally, the update is bringing improvements to everything from the Pixel 3a to the original Pixel.

The July 2019 security patch fixes 12 vulnerabilities that range from high to critical. As it relates to Pixel devices, the patch also includes the following fixes:

  • Improves “OK Google” and music detection (Pixel 2 and newer)
  • Fixes an issue for some devices getting stuck during boot (Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL)
  • Fixes an issue for some devices getting stuck in EDL mode with a blank screen (Pixel 3 and newer)
  • Improves Unicode Japanese language support (All Pixel smartphones)
  • Improves Titan M module (Pixel 3 and newer)

You can download the factory images and OTA files at the links below. You can then either flash a fresh build or sideload the OTA file. If you’d rather take the normal route, go to Settings -> System -> Advanced -> System update.
